The PWMU Cookbook and From Suet to Saffron

The PWMU Cookbook was first published in 1904, not just to help raise funds for mission work, but also to provide healthy recipes and tips on food preparation for young families. The most recent edition was published in 2021. The cookbook has received international awards for its longevity. The PWMU Cookbook is managed by a separate committee comprising members of the PCV (Presbyterian Church of Victoria) and the UCA (Uniting Church in Australia).

The cookbook is a well-known and much-loved presence in many kitchens across Australia and beyond. PWMU’s share of the funds from these books is now used to support bursary students that PWMU has sponsored for further theological studies, both in Australia and overseas. Since 1980, PWMU has sponsored 13 overseas students and one Australian student at the Presbyterian Theological College in Melbourne, as well as 8 South Sudanese pastors in two theological colleges in Ethiopia.
